Dementia Services Development Centre, 2009
Running time: approx 27 minutes
Red Nose Coming demonstrates the benefits of using the performing arts to communicate with older people with dementia. This inspiring DVD features the work of Edinburgh-based charity Hearts&Minds. Their innovative arts-in-health programmes have helped children and older people in 14 hospitals and hospices across Scotland.
The DVD was filmed in an assessment and long-term care ward at the Borders General Hospital. Wearing their trademark red noses, the Elderflowers, who are qualified clown performers, are shown engaging with people with dementia. Using non-verbal communication, humour and creativity they make a connection which promotes a sense of wellbeing, inclusion and empowerment.
